Jason Wilkins is the first one to have mechanical troubles this trip. His PSC power steering pump spit out the inlet hose resulting is the loss of most of his power steering fluid. He removed the power steering pulley and continues with the trail.

This is no place to be walking around with just sandals on, ouch!

The sharp rocks tore up more then just toes. Chris Butler inspects a lengthy tear in his wife's pants. Fortunately we have just the fix for this this, lots of duct tape! Not fashionable but it works.

This is one of the many mine openings in around Calico. We hiked to the end of a few of the them. It was noticeably cooler inside the rocks.

Wayne Flower (pictured above) posted up an invite on Pirate4x4 to run on some of the trails near the Calico Ghost Town in Southern California. I have wanted to get out and see these trails for some time, so I decided to join the group. I arrived Friday night and we did a night run to scout out the next day's run.

Jason Wilkins makes several attempts at the entrance but was unable to make the left line. Damaged transfer case mounts were allowing for huge amounts of slop in the driveline. He sure gave it hell trying. It was interesting to see how well the Webber carb ran on his 1300 motor. He was able to keep the truck running event with it fully on it's side.

Chris Butler gets out of his rig and ponders the trail after many tries up the left line. He just could not get up because of a larger then normal ledge due to heavy rains.

When scouting the trail the night before I noticed this line (right side of line from the drivers point of view). Given the current conditions it looked more doable then the traditional way up. Wayne said that he had never seen anyone make it up this line despite many attempts. After a minor problem debeading the right rear tire, I spotted Chris up and over.
