Almost like a
kid waiting for Christmas morning I couldn't sleep this
Saturday night because I new that I was going wheeling early
the next morning. So early Sunday morning I was up and ready
to go do a little messing around in my "almost" stock 1881
Toyota pickup. My destination was Dinky Creek Road and the
wilderness trails that lay on both sides of it. I was on the
trail and off the road by 8:00am Sunday morning.
After some last
minute routine maintenance checks and of course some
prayers, I took a little drive up Crossman's Road and found
some pretty cool frozen mountain roads to get squirrelly on,
but no rocks. So we headed toward Rock Creek Road by way of
Bald mountain and a few other un-named trails.
It was a pretty
crazy just getting to the Bald mountain Trail head. Snow and
rocks are very dangerous and if you mix that with a capable
rig and a nut loose behind the wheel it can be a great trip.
Needless to say I took every opportunity to get my moneys
worth and I am defiantly satisfied. Not to mention I will be
busy working on my truck for the next week, but once again
she got me home.
You can
get to the Lookout Tower on Bald Mountain If you have 35
inch or better tires, are fully locked up and don't mind a
lot of snow every where. It was a a lot easier going in
because the snow was frozen and we could drive on it, but
after 20 rigs beat it up, its a little bit more burly on the
way out then on the way in. That
keeps you awake on the way back down the mountain. Many
Trails in the area of the Dinky Creek Wilderness were
accessible on Sunday but they were closed. So of course I
didn't wheel any of them, and I didn't see anyone else wheel
them either.
Met many good
people from The California Four Wheel Drive Association, and
those guys really good hands on the trail. They are like the
Marines, they don't leave no one behind. Also many of the
local clubs were well represented from the Central Valley
area. It was a great day to have your family out on the
trail with you, it was full of good courteous people.
Living in the
middle Of the Sierra National Forest is really a blessing. I
would like to invite people from all over the country to
stop in and visit some of our World Famous trails. And while
your in the Valley stop in on us at Trail-Gear and meet the
guys and check the place out. We love visitors. I took a few
pictures of some of the action and some of cool rigs.
Hopefully Chris can salvage a few, and I hope you enjoy. I
will certainly be smiling for a couple of days.
