Dysfunctional Organization’s
“Cantina for the
Con” takes the Rubicon by Storm!!!
Well, one
more Labor Day weekend has come and gone, and once
again, the Dysfunctional Rockcrawlers (also known as TDO)
have made an impression on many folks with their Third
annual “Cantina for the Con”.
If you
have been under a rock for the last three years, then
let me explain. TDO has, for the third year in a row,
put together an event/fundraiser on the Rubicon trail to
benefit the Rubicon Trail Foundation (RTF), a 501C3
non-profit that helps maintain and protect the Rubicon
trail, and its surrounding areas. At this event TDO,
and friends of the club, hold a raffle, and prepare
tacos, and nachos in true cantina style. This year with
the help of more vendors than you can count, TDO held a
raffle with over $13,000 worth of prizes, and also
prepared over 1400 tacos!!!!!
This year
TDO also invited many vendors that wished to show their
support of the trail to come out to the event, and set
up a booth. This year vendors like AA fabrication,
Jeepers Jamboree, Trail-Gear, MP trailers and truck
bodies, Olympic 4X4, Robb’s Resort, and Uncle Tom’s
Cabin all showed up to show their support, show off
their products to more than 2000 trail users, and most
importantly, enjoy the company of friends while helping
to support the greatest trail on earth.
This year
we also had a volunteer booth set up to educate trail
users on what the Draft Environmental Impact Study is
all about; how it affects over 2500 miles of Forest
service roads in El Dorado National forest alone; and
how to write letters to the Forest Service explaining
that these are the roads that we recreate on every year,
and we will fight to keep them open!! With the help of
these volunteers, there were 207 letters hand written to
the El Dorado County Forest Service, and many more
people than that were educated on what is going on in
OUR forest.
All together, TDO,
with the help of thousands of trail users, raised an
amazing, almost astonishing, $22,194.05 that will be
donated to the Rubicon Trail Foundation at their next
meeting. So thank-you to everyone that helped make this
event a huge success!! Including all the vendors that
donated raffle prizes, all the clubs that showed up to
help, including the Rubicon Rockheads, the Pirates of
the Rubicon, the Rock Zombies, and the Contra Costa
Jeepers, all had a hand in making this event a success!!
