Trail-Gear Inc. is expecting to open for business on, our about December 10th with a limited product line of items for Toyota pickup and 4Runners. This will include rock slider bars, high steer kits and knuckle rebuild kits to name a few. Many more new items are in the works including rock sliders and bumpers for Jeep Rubicon's along with 15" and 17" beadlocked wheels.

I know its a little soon but is can you tell us anything about the beadlock wheels.

The wheels Trail-Gear is working on are heavy wall aluminum wheels with a diamond pattern in them. Plans call for 17" and 15" sizes with a few options on bolt pattern and offset. Later a steel version may also be made. These wheels feature a built in beadlock structure. This is not a cut and weld wheel assembly, rather it is cast as solid wheel with no welding involved in it's assembly.

Here is a the first finished prototype, hot off the press!. The outer rig is still being finished by our machinist. It should be finished any day now. After a round of photos, the wheel will be sent out for specialized destructive testing so see just what these wheels can handle.

arent these the same wheels that were going to be for Marlin... They look like they will be hard to clean.

Yes. There are a number of products that Trail-Gear has been working on. Many items did not involve Marlin at any level other than as a retail outlet. Just a few days ago I saw a prototype tire monitoring package that shows the driver the temp and pressure of each of the 4 tires using a display panel mounted on the dash.

The idea of Marlin and Trail-Gear coming together would brought the sourcing/engineering abilities with the Marlin name. Marlin had nothing to do with the design or even the idea of this product. Marlin will have the option to resale it as will other retail vendors if he chooses to.

Trail-Gear will continue to make and source products that will be sold only through a contracted retail vendor. These products will not be sold by Trail-Gear at a retail level as long as the vendor continues it's commitments to sell the product.

This is good to hear. I think many people, including myself, were concerned that you were going to sell direct at a discounted price to undercut the vendors that have been selling your products thus far. Although it would be great for us, it wouldn't be good business practice for yourself.

So, if you're still going to use vendors as an outlet for your products, and from what I understand, MC is a major vendor of yours, what products should we expect to see being sold direct from Trail-Gear and what will we have to go elsewhere to get?

is there going to be options to say have a solid lock ring?

Had not thought about making a solid ring. That would be worth looking at. I'd like to see how it looks with a solid ring. We have some being made right now here in town, it should not be hard at all to just skip on cutting step.

Great idea, I'll pass it along.

or maybe to keep cost out of the sky have an option to have a steel outer ring.. my guess is that steel does better in the rocks..

HOW ABOUT A STEEL BEADLOCK SET UP

Chris Geiger

That is a definite possibility. It's an entirely different process with different tooling but we have had a lot of positive feed back for a steel version.

those wheels look good but too much bling for a toyota trail rig, IMO. id be scared to get those in the rocks, especially without a larger lock ring. maybe something like TRs or Champions ring to protect the wheel some more would be wise.

steel bead locks would be a hit I think. 2-3 backspacing for us Toyota owners trying to get alittle more width is a nice feature as well...

The rim has a lot of bling, but that is just one of its great features. The rim was designed for rock crawling, so please do not be afraid to beat the tar out of it. The wall thickness is .50" throughout the entire center section and almost .75" near the lug pattern. The offset will range from 3.75" to 5.00". It will be offered with a wide or narrow rock ring.

When this rim is launched into production, it will be the best performance off-road/rock crawling rim available at an affordable price, hands down.

Thanks,
Matt

Price has not been set on the item as we still have some parts of it that have not been completed. I can say it will be under $300 per wheel.

How about some wheels that have 2" or 2.5" backspace. I t would be great to have hat on the market in an alum. beadlock wheel. I dont think any vender or specialty shop even has them.
