On your 4 cyl diff. set up kit, does that kit have the materials to set up both front and rear diffs or just one??

I am thinking of going back to 4.10's and I need to buy the setup kits.

The setup kit does one diff, so to do front and rear you will need two kits.

I would not go back to stock gears if your doing it for strength. I've found that aftermarket 4.88 and 5.29's seem to be stronger than stock 4.10's.

oh man, another dilema for me to think about now. I have had TONS of guys say to go back to 4.10's for strength but now your sayin not to. All these descisions are killin me man.

So, is there any truth to cryoing makes the ring and pinion weaker as far as a daily driver goes? Bobby is cryoing R&P's now and maybe I should just go that route. :?: :?

5.29s, 4.10s...4.88s...regarding strength and durability, the ratio doesnt matter nearly as much as the setup.

www.gearinstalls.com has a good writeup and take on this on-going debate.

I have had person after person tell me that the article is B.S. I dont know what to believe so I am not arguing the fact what so ever. I wish I did know cause I was fixin to pay a guy to set up my 3rds again with all stock 4.10's and I was gonna sell my 5.29 R & P's.

:? :?:

In theory, assuming the materials were exactly the same, the lower ratios like 4.10's should be stronger. What we are learning from practical trail experience is that the 4.88's and 5.29 aftermarket gears from Precision and Randy’s R&P are fail less often than factory 4.10 gears.

The annealing process done by Bobby Long can reduce shock failure on the trail but may reduce long term wear of the gear set. I would consider this choice carefully in any rig that see street and highway miles. For a trail only rig there is really no down side to softening the gears.

Chris, did you mean to say "reduce" or "increase" long term wear? I am running Long's 5.29s and 30 splines and heard the rumor cryoed r&ps may affect long term wear, increasing the wearing process. We are likely saying the same thing, just semantics on my part.

I don't know if I will be much of a reference on the "theory" because my Runner will probably see less than 2K per year in street use, but so far, no problems here. :D

I have many trails and hwy-to-trail miles on my 5:29s with 35's.
3 years and going strong.
