I have a 1988 4runner body that has been straightened and primed ready for paint :D but is on a bad frame (rusted) . Surprisingly I picked up 1985 pickup standard bed for a good price with the frame in near perfect shape as far as rust is concerned :D .
Question 1 Would there be a lot of fab work done to get the 4runner body to fit on the pickup frame or is it basically a direct fit?
Question 2 Is it feasable to bolt a V6 5spd out of a 88 4runner to a 4cyl
Question 3 Can you easily convert a 22re motor to a 22r?
one last thing is after ordering some parts today from TG I was thoroughly impressed with the customer service I got from Ryan. Thanks. :D

Why X2?
You can put the runner body on the truck but you have to move a body mount or 2 I think.

the reason for question 2 is because a buddy of mine has a 88 4runner V6 and is thinking about putting a 4cyl in when the V6 dies and was wondering if he would have to change out trannys.

I think #1 could be done pretty easily a body mount here and there. I think the forward end of the frame is a wee bit different. Nothing insurmountable.
#2.People do it every day…not to replace a v6 with a 4cyl, but to get the stronger tranny with crawler gears.
#3. You’ll need an ECU, wiring harness and injectors from the same (or compatible year). You’ll also need an EFI tank and various goodies.

I built my 4 runner on a truck frame. The frame is the same in the front and the second body moumt. The rest of the mounts have to be changed, The most important thing is the fuel tank. The truck tank does not fit well under the rear seat and the fill location is different. Best to use the 4 runner tank. I didn't have a 4 runner tank but I made it work by using 2 4 runner fill hoses.

I would like to say thank you for the replies guys...As far as the 4cyl change I meant efi to carb not carb to efi and for the tranny swap I wasn't sure if the bellhousing was different and/or the input shaft on the tranny.
Thanks,

heck if you lived closer I would gladly give you my carb gear for your EFI gear. Why carb? I can't even keep up with the same truck when has been converted to EFI.

To me carbs are easier to work with than efi...I currently have a carb 22r but a buddy of mine found a 22re and wondered if you could switch to carb.

I hear ya, I don't know crap about EFI either.
A couple years ago I didn't know how to turn on a computer, now look at me. Whoo hoo I'm on a message board!

Hey that's what the weekend is for. Find yourself a real popular trail to wheel and each time you get to a obstacle you can kick back while the 20-50 rigs in front of you take their turn at getting through. Very relaxing

good point...but I still am wondering if you have to do anything to a V6 5spd tranny to bolt it up to a 4cyl motor?
