First off i wanna say hello to everyone and that this is my first post here on Trail-Gear.

I have a 93 toyota pickup, 22re, 5spd, 4wd, lousy IFS.

I am getting ready to start my SAS using a dana 44 front and 14 bolt rear. At first i was gonna run a toyota axle up front and leave the toy rear in the truck but i got a hell of a deal on a gmc parts truck*(200 bucks)

I am really interested in running your springs in the front of my toyota and was planing on getting the IFS eliminator kit back when i was gonna run a toy axle. I have heard great things about what yall are doing with your products and your prices are incredible.

But to get the question, is it possible to run your 5 inch lift springs with the dana 44? Everyone i come across is tellin me to run skyjacker 7 inch springs, but they are super stiff and dont articulate worth a crap. I dont want to be too awful high and lose my COG. Since im runnin a 3 inch body lift as well. I plan on wanting to run a 37-39 inch tire. Havnt made up my mind yet. I think the 5 inch springs are right up my alley.

I appreciate any advice yall can give me!

Thanks,
Chris

What spring you choose really depends on your application. The Skyjacker spring is known as a "Street Lift" spring. Its primary purpose is for getting clearance for large tires so the truck looks cool. They are a stiff spring that won't travel much. One of the main reasons they do this is to prevent large tires from coming up and hitting the body.

Ride quality with these springs is really not that bad because the larger tire you run with them is going to have more built in give than a smaller stock tire. They can also be a good spring for mud running where flexibility is not a factory and you need the ability jump the truck.

Our springs are designed for rock crawling and are much more flexible. For the rocks articulation is very important and a stiff spring prevents the kind of travel we are looking for.

We try and build our trucks as low as possible. A high center of gravity causes unnecessary rollovers. Our spring kits are designed to move the axle forward 1.5" this allows a larger tire with less lift. To further increase tire size we cut the fenders open and clearance the firewall. We find we can install a 38 X 12.50 tire with as little as 3" springs and no body lift.

Our 5" spring would work just fine with your 44 axle. You may find that after installing them you can remove some or all of the body lift with some sheet metal work.

Thank-you for considering our products for your buildup!

Thanks, I really appreciate the indepth answer to my questions.

I started thinking last night that its a possibility that the 5" springs and the body lift would be a bit much. I could do like you said and remove the body lift and stay with the 5 inch spring. I really dont want too awful high and have that possibility of roll-over since i will be doing a lot of rock crawling within the next year as i move out to colorado springs. Since my buddies being the mudaholics they are is prolly the reason they referred me to the 7 inch skyjackers.

I am gonna keep the axles full width and prolly just outboard my shackle so that i can retain the GM spring perch width. But i havnt quite decided yet. I am getting parts truck wednesday and hope to pull the axles, motor, tranny, t-case and then haul it off to scrap. I am sure once i have everything in my face i will be able to make my decisions a little bit better.

Do you know if by chance there are pictures of trucks with your 3,4,5 inch springs on them so it could help in my decision making. And one other thing. Does the higher the lift spring change the stiffness and flexability of the springs?

Here are a couple of photos of rigs with our 4" springs...

The spring rate is nearly identical on all three sizes of springs.

Good to know. I figured I could fit my 36"s with the 3" springs I bought from you. I plan on tubbing the firewall if needed. I should have my junk SAS'd in a couple of weeks, and I'll post some pics once it's done.

By chance, what is the width of the trail-gear front spring hanger?

I measured my 44 pin to pin on the axle perches is 32 1/8 inches i believe. I know yall do more toyota axle stuff but im sure the span of knowledge here will help me out greatly? What advice as far as hanging a dana 44 could i get. (narrowing? spring hanger width? etc?)

Thanks a ton!
Chris

Our front hanger is 29" wide (center of spring to center of spring)
