Thanks for the compliments,
I tore the front end apart to day to put new axels in for the April Hammers trip. Got all the parts back from the painter today, I really like the color. I was a little concerned it wouldn't be bright enough!!

Locktup - sweet build! Always liked your Toyota. The tube work is a work of art. Cool.
Got a question - What SIZE wheel/tire combo are you running.
I'm upgrading to 37x12.5 Creepy Crawlers on either 15x8 or 10 beadlocks, but I cant decide which size wheel would be better to run. I've been told to run the 15x8s...but would like some better first hand experience. I'd like to gain the extra width of the 10" wheel, would there be any real negatives to running this versus an 8" wheel.
Again these will be beadlocks. Thanks

Thanks, I take allot of pride in everything I build.
I run 15x10 wheels, but with the bead lock it's a 15x11. The tires are 38x12.50 Swampers. I am thinking of changing the wheels and tires to something bigger, but not sure yet??
If you are not going to run bead locks I would run 15x8 wheels. If you are going to run the bead locks I would go with 15x10. That is my opinion for what it's worth.

I just dropped it off at the stereo shop to have a system put in. I'm not sure what they are going to do with it, I don't have much room . I told them to call me when it is done. I put in the 30 splines and new trany the only big thing left is to build an exhaust and I'm ready for the Hammers.

I am getting new front springs so I wanted to ramp it to see what the difference would be. I just about ran out of ramp so it will be hard to tell if the new springs are going to be as flexy. The springs I am pulling off are a year and a half old, they are the second set of All Pro's I have put on. The first set buckled and this set did the same thing.

What coils did you use in the rear? Also do you remember spring installed height? Im trying to figure out how you knew how much they would compress when building the mounts, considering the lack of weight in the rear.

What coils did you use in the rear? Also do you remember spring installed height? Im trying to figure out how you knew how much they would compress when building the mounts, considering the lack of weight in the rear.
Spring = 1 whole
3.5 * 2 springs = 7, plus .25 from the pirch plus .375 of thickness on top = 7.625 tall
(.375 on both sides becomes .75) + 18 inches from the diameter it becomes 18.75 inches in diameter
S = 2pi * 9.375 * 7.625 = 18.75 * 7.625pi = 142.96875pi
470 cal/in^3 = 211100.3001 = about 211100 cal
211100 + 20358 + 249380 = 480838
480838/800 = about 601, 800 when all done.
I am 100% certain this not the way I did it!!
I think these are the rears out of a Jeep Rubicon. I have several sets so I'm not sure. I had scales at the time I built the truck so I was able to weigh the truck. So that gave me a good idea of what spring/weight to use and how tall.
Thanks

Not very good pictures. First run with 4" T-G springs in the front. We ran Sledge Hammer, then Outer Limits and we ran Wrecking Ball last. In our group we had a 4Runner, truck and my thing with T-G springs. We ran the desert roads around 30-40 mph getting a little air, bashing them into rocks, inverting them 3" past flat and getting the front ends so bound up that the spring pack looked like it may fly apart for four days straight. The springs held up great. They have lots of flex and neither of the trucks has a lean to one side.

I've been real busy since I got back from the Hammers. I've been working on another truck. I ran the Trail-Gear 4" front springs and they worked great. Lots of flex. I was told the 5" Trail-Gear springs are softer. So I received my new 5" springs last week. As soon as I get some time I will put them on. I probably wont ramp the 5" because the 4" springs maxed the ramp out. Hoping to test thrash the new springs at Moon Rocks Memorial weekend. I also received the forged pitman arm. Compared to the stock one I made this thing looks indestructible. I will post some pictures as soon as I put on the parts under it.

When I first showed up at Locktups house it looked like a Rock Crawler sales lot. He had four trucks there including mine, the neighbors must love him.
I took my truck over to Locktup's house to flex it on the ramp. The 4" springs are working great and I gained about 8" up the ramp.
After we got done with that we took to the white truck for a few hours. Sure is fun cutting up some one else's truck.
Then we put the new T-G 5" front springs and pitman arm on Locktups truck. That took about an hour. We are getting fast at this.

I didn't notice any difference in stability. But it is softer and it droops more than the 4" fronts. Don't get me wrong the 4" work great but I like the 5" fronts.

I broke the insides to one of the flex joints, two heim joints are bound up they don't move, bent rear drive shaft, left side knuckle studs are loose/broken/stipped? The arm moves 1/2" side to side and the rear truss after 2 1/2 years of beating it has finally failed. I will be good to go for the Trail-Gear run in Aug.

locktup, that is some killer work.
In the last pic it looks like you have offset the axle tube with respect to the backing plate/axle center line. Is this done intentionally for increasing tube-to-ground clearance? Pretty cool idea if that's what you're going for. Sorta portal-ish. Are you concerned about welding in that area causing issues with either distortion or strength?

I offset the axle tubes are for more ground clearance. I'm not too concerned about the flange getting distorted because it's all bolted down to the jig. I do have a little concern about the strength at the flange/axle tube. But I welded it, sleeved it and gussted it so I'm not sure what else I can do. I am going to try and break it so we will see. I am going to carry my old housing with me because I am a BIG SISSY.

Got back from 3 days on the Rubicon. I didn't take one picture. I flopped it onto the passenger side and did a little more damage to the rear panel. The rear axle housing is holding up to the abuse very well. No leaks, breaks or tears. My power steering box has a leak now and I bashed my cross member so bad I may have to remove it with a torch. On the way out I stopped to help a few people out with there rigs. Nothing major, but a good way to meet new people.

These axles are nothing like Brian's. I'm not trying to piss anyone off. I thought of these axle designs a few years ago and was told it wouldn't work. So I stopped moving forward with the project until last year. So far so good. This will be my fourth housing and so far the Diamond shape of the front works out best for clearance. But it's the hardest one to fabricate.

The new axle housing I'm building is getting a set of Trail-Gear's Six Shooters with full hydro and a Trail-Gear pump, T-G's Creeper Gussets, T-G's 4:88Ring & Pinion, T-G's Rock Rings, Detriot, Bobby Longs 30 spline's and drive flanges. I also picked up a set of T-G's rear axles.

I ran all kinds of fluids through the T-G pump to get it back to camp after I blew my ram.
2 1/2 quarts of synthetic power steering fluid before the blow out.
1 quart 80/90 gear oil
1 quart brake fluid
2 quarts 20/50 engine oil
1 quart power steering fluid
I flushed the system out last night and the pump doesn't whine. I'm going to install my new ram this weekend and then I'm race ready.

What a dodgy bunch of Boorries in that pic ;)
Was great having you, Andi and Stacey/Lance/Casey out here. And top work on my rig!. I reckon it would be the only TG Classic front & rear rig in the West   Kik Ass!
Nice Ford :haha: I think that flatbed is a limiting factor for those tires :psss:

I was going to notch to be but Chris has fold down sides and a tail gate so it wouldn't have worked the way I wanted it. The laws down there are very strict. Just welding to your frame is not allowed.

Got some more done today. I had to cut a section of tube out for the coilovers. The links and tabs are almost done, just a few small things to do to them. I should be getting my shocks next week so I will mount them on Sunday.
