I have been in the process of rebuilding my 22re for awhile now. Now I am ready to get the refurbed head on and install the new oil and water pump and timing gear set-up. I have been trying to get my dampner pulley bolt out of the crank forever. I did the breaker bar trick where you bump the starter with the breaker bar resting on the frame to break it loose to no avail. All it did was round the bolt off. Now im screwed. Anyone have any tricks to getting this bitch off? Im thinking about hammering a one size smaller socket on there and hope it is enough to break it loose? Any ideas, help? Yes I have tried an air gun, to no avail... running out of time and ideas...

Weld an old socket right to the end of the bolt.

Ya, thats what I have been thinking about. I think the previous tech. used threadlock on it. this SOB hasn't even budged. I thought the starter trick would pop it right off, Im afraid to keep doing it though, i dont want to break off teeth on my flywheel or starter. May have to get out the old chain wrench and prepare to by a new dampner.

Even better, weld a nut onto it and get a stronger impact. But usually if you weld a big nut onto the end of the bolt head you can impact it off, the heat from welding it will help break it loose too.

get a better quality 6pt socket and a ratchet and smack it with a hammer
it is the sudden blow that will break it free

since you already rounded the bolt off... might as well weld it to a socket and look for a new one. put a long pipe on you break bar, i did this and the bolt comes out w/ ease when i'm all chalked up in 5th. give it a few jerks and pop!

Make sure to put your truck into 5th gear with the parking break set when you break it loose. Mine was a bitch until I did that.

I had this same thing happen to me last month. I used wd40, 1/2 inch impact, 3/4 inch impact, chisel, heat, heat with wax, and a 4 foot breaker bar. Nothing worked. Then we heated it up and used an impact and an impact chisel on it at the same time and it popped right off. the head was pretty screwed up on it. hope it helps.

cut the shoulder off of the bolt, all the way to the head, all the way around, that will reduce the friction and tension the bolt has, and it should come right out.
