I am putting my front axle back onto my 85 4runner with the trail gear hi steer setup. My question is can I mount the ifs steering box with the mounting kit (trail gear) with only the bolts attached? I was thinking about driving a few miles to the local shop to weld the steering box to the bracket, but wasn't sure if this would be too risky. Any thoughts/suggestions?

The bracket gets WELDED to the FRAME.
The steering box then gets BOLTED to the bracket/frame.
I don't think there's any way of safely driving it before the bracket gets welded in place.

Thanks for the help. I am now thinking it would be best to call a welding shop with portable capabilities to weld the steering box.

you dont know anybody with a welder?
doesnt take long to buzz the plates and sleeves in place.
for the cost the portable weld shop would charge you could probably buy a little buzz box arc welder.

Hey, where are you at? I am in Magalia, if you are close and you have everything ready to go we can probably work something out.

Toycrawler,
That would be great, I live in chico. I still have to put on the front axle and high steer, but I should be done by next week (it's been tough to find to time to work in my garage). I could always give you some money for your time, I imagine that you have a 110 that you could bring down? Thanks

You can drill out the holes and then mount it and be real careful and take it a few miles to be welded. I say this unofficially of course, because all of our products are intended for off road use only. Its not adviseable, but it will work, I did it once. i drove about 25 miles to get mine all welded up.
