It's been almost 2 months and I REALLY need a longer than 8" driveshaft kit.

Please help.

I may need one if I cant fix my rear shaft.

We got the prototypes in and they are SOOOO BEEFY! We are working on that fine line between the heat treating being hard enough to take a pounding and too hard so it is weak.

Trust me, the wait is going to be worth it. We are just waiting for the production peaces to come in.

Are we talking custom length driveshafts or ones matched to TG lift kits or what?

Chris Dunbar

The drivelines will be a 12" model with 10.5" useable spline and NO necked down section at the base of the spline.

We have done A LOT of R&D to strengthen the driveline but not go overkill so the rotational mass is held to a minimum.

The drivelines will be sold with .188" wall DOM tubing for the driveline and .120" wall DOM tubing for a dust shield for the splines. You will also get 2 Trail-Gear u-joints and a Trail-Gear u-joint end flange.

The customer will then have a complete driveline with ZERO used parts and can then measure the desired length and have a driveline shop cut and weld it together.

Sounds good. Can't wait for it to be released. Hopefully soon.

I like the idea of carrying one driveshaft as a spare.

Cool.

Thanks

will you be able to buy the 12" shaft without the whole kit you guys set up? Just sounds pricey.

Any testing feedback on the U Joints? Dimensionally are they the same as Toyota ones? I've read many posts that refer to Jesse at High Angle claiming that Toyota factory U Joints are as strong as US 1 Ton..

I am sold on the factory Toyota U joints. Snohman twisted a square 1/4" wall drive shaft and broke the 1 ton U joint and the Toyota U joint was unbroken and still useable.

We took the factory u-joint and hed all the critical dimensions and "beefed" it up more in the center and end cap where they break. They will be super stong, guaranteed.

The kit will not be "pricey" either. Trail-Gear's capability on sourcing and volume will make the kit less expensive than anyone on the market.

I would think the driveline by itself can be purchased also.

Any update? I have my duals sitting on my workbench waiting, but can't wait much longer

The drivelines are being made right now. We are just waiting for production to finish and the parts to be shipped. It should not be very much longer.

The parts will be in stock this week. Please keep in mind that we will still have to complete our receiving and inspection process before we can let them out the door. Realistically they should be up on the website by Nov. 6th.

I know it has been a long wait, but I am not going to rush any parts out the door that I personally have not approved.

Thanks for waiting.

any idea on how much it will cost, just a ball park?

Since the hybrid rears up front now flex better, I need a new front shaft. No point in cutting the shaft now since I am going to do the duals, that means rear shaft work (need a new bearing in the horseshoe), and I may as well do the skid plate.
Thats why I have been pushing the adapter, I need it.

Today we installed one of our new kits on Dunbar's truck and plan to abuse it this weekend. I seem to recall a section of trail in an episode of TGTV where John waisted his front shaft. I think we will try it in reverse and see how much damage can inflict on this new unit. We will have pricing info soon, expect pricing to be similar to other kits on the market.

Here is a photo of the kit...

Is there a possiblity of seeing the new u-joint?
A comparison shot of it with a stocker would be cool.

I am sure we can but it is pretty pricey.

it cant be any more than anywhere else right? you guys should sell a complete driveshaft or a weld up kit. ive got a roller setup wit a dial indicator that i can check how straight my cuts are. but i think a complete shaft would be a great option and its something i havent seen many other companies offer. would there be a huge difference in the length of the shaft of the 3i nch kit and the 5 inch kit? i understand its kind of a "you gotta measure thing" but im pretty sure that if you did a weld up kit and had like 3 different size tubes for each kit , the person could order the tubes already cut and ready to weld up in the size they need. im pretty sure you could come up with an approximate measurment of the tube length for each lift kit size and then assemble the kit that way. i dunno if that makes sense but it would kick major ass as a customer....

With 8" slip travel shafts you really have to have the shaft exactly the right length or it will slip out and hit on compression. With this longer slip shaft making a shaft that fits a number of applications very doable. We are not set up to make complete shafts at this time but we have seriously considered making the remaining components needed to build all new shafts and stock them. Offering DOM drive shaft tubing for the do-it-yourself guy is also a great idea.

^ Is this still the case? Judging by the lastest update, the kit is only what is pictured above.

Ooooh I can't wait. Hurry up before I'm broke and can't afford one of these. My shop build has been draining all of my $$$$ lately.

Do you need a tester on the east coast? I'll be happy to make sure it works over here for ya....

Yes it will work front or rear and will balance correctly for high speed driving.

Here is one we are testing in Chris Dunbar's pickup...

even if it does cost as much as the AP the TG kit would be better anyway to me..you get everything to make a driveshaft except the cv/yoke end

Couple questions-

What size tubing? I know the OD can vary, but what ID?

Since the U-Joint size is Trail-Gear proprietary, are you selling replacements? Don't see them on the website. Cost for replacement U-Joints?

Thanks.

Im pretty sure it's just a Toyota u-joint with some extra beefing up so a stock u-joint should be able to replace it. I could be wrong though.
