View Full Version : steering problems!!!
I having problems with me zukie steering the pitman arm to the steering gear box is not sitting parallel with the leafs springs wen the tire is straight . this is why i it doesnt turn as sharp one way as it does the other .... But this is were im kinda tricky... the rig has a zlink on it went i bought it ...could it be that this zlink is too LOng ? and i think this is why my steering wheel doesnt sit straight either. But F**k the sterring wheel as long as i have full turning radious. should i try to put stock steering back on it till i can finger out y i cant turn with the zlink ?

when i went to a high steer set up, it seemed to limit my turning radius too. i tried the mercedies bends trick. it works good on pass side but not so good on driver side. is that zlink adjustable??? try shorting it. do you have a drop pitman arm?? try a stock one. if you still cant get it put the stock setup back on, get it steering good and measure to see how long the zlink should be. good luck.

Pull the pitman arm off. Center tires, then center the box. Then connect the pitman arm. Now you will have the same amount of turning left or right.
Z links do nothing because they do not change the mounting point. It still goes from point a to point b. It could have a triple loop in the middle and it still won't change the point that it connects to.
I finally got the sterring strainght i jus had to get my head out my ass and think about it.... wat had happen was the guy that ownd it b4 me wen he put the zlink on he dint take the pitman arm adjust the sterring he just pushed the pitman arm to the driver side to make it fit. THis was y the steering wheel was cruked and it would turn sharp as hell one way and just a lil to the other side.... so i took pitman arm off found center point of the steering and put back on. the steering wheel was still crucked so i disconnected the steering shaft from the yoke close to the fire wall and the gear box and placed it whith steering wheel in the right place....:thanks: :thanks: :thanks: :flame: That dumbass previous owner was lazy as f**k. just out of guessing tho cuz he did drive it like that for a long while. I also attached some pics of the ride the day i got not really any good pics yet but hopefully have some action pics tommorow.

Though your right about the geometry the z-links do serve a purpose. On a spoa sami the stock arm comes in contact with the pass. leaf spring when you turn to the right.
