Well we started the buggy up this afternoon and it sounds AWESOME! We did some passes up and down the street and it handles good and has tons of power and we only went to half throttle and it is not even tuned yet. We have it loaded up in the trailer and are headed down to Turnkey Engine supply to get the car dyno tuned tomorrow.

I'm new to this sport and I'm still learning, but 20HP to the wheels at first appears low. Is it because it is geared for God-aweful torque? Obviously, if we were building for quick acceleration, a much higher horsepower would be our goal, but I'm just thinking that since torque is what is needed to crawl over huge boulders, the HP figure is not anywhere near as important.

sounds like sarcasm to me i'm sure they don't want the comp. to know the stats.

you flip the thirds upside down and the wheels spin backwards. when the thirds and motor are backwards the tires go foward.

That is correct. We flipped the thirds upside down and are still running standard rotation gears and with the engine in backwards everything spins the correct direction in the end.

They are Currie Housings. They were specially built for us to run the 3rds upside down because the bolt pattern is not symmetrical. They are also shaved for better ground clearance.

Well.... We were making first dust when our currie steering arm broke in half. We didnt bring a spare and thought we were out so we were sitting waiting for our pit crew to come and get us out. Then we lost radio reception for about 45 minutes and decided to take off so we pushed through the course with one steering arm and limped it back to the BFG Pits where BFG welded up our arm and we got back on course and made the checkpoint by 5 minutes. We made it another 25-30 miles before our arm broke again in a different spot and the other arm was cracked so we drove it to the next checkpoint and just made it but the following one closed in 30 minutes so we did not have time to repair it and we headed back to camp.
