Default 22re running hot

I have a problem with my truck that nobody has been able to figure out yet. I have had several mechanics try to fix it and have had no luck yet.
My problem is that I had a 22r that ran great. I bought a donor 22re truck that I never heard run.
I put all the fuel injection parts onto my 22r block. I kept the 22r head.
When I drive the truck on the road now, the exhast manifold gets so hot that it glows. I also have hardly any power.
I never opened up the engine, so the timing chain is not off a tooth. When I did the swap, I had a muffler shop put in new exhaust.
One mechanic told me that when the engine reves up, the timing goes way retarded.
If anyone has any idea what could be causing this, please help. I am trying to get this fixed without throwing more money at it and getting no solution. I does run OK at low RPM and I wheel the crap out of it. I would just like to be able to drive it a little bit vs. just being a trailer queen.
Thanks in advance for your help.
Oh yeah, the original engine was from an 84 runner and the fuel injection stuff is from an 86 runner.
